SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

Sustainability.  A decade ago, much of the public was unfamiliar with this phrase.  Today, sustainability has become synonymous with finding solutions to a wide variety of environmental challenges, including overfishing, pollution and destruction of marine habitats.

With consumer demand for seafood on the rise and the world’s supply of wild fish stocks in decline, the need for a sustainable aquaculture has never been greater.  Australis is committed to making a difference by ensuring that aquaculture lives up to its true potential.

Our US facility in Turner Falls, MA is one of the world's largest indoor fish farms, providing a clean, environmentally friendly way to farm one of seafood’s best-kept secrets: barramundi.

Australis is also a pioneer in sustainable aquaculture technology, developing innovative water reuse systems and feeds to improve the environmental performance of our farms.  Now, these technologies are applied all over the world.

Our greener way of fish farming has been recognized by Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch Program, Environmental Defense, Seafood Choices Alliance and other sustainable partners.  We’re also proud to note that Australis was named the winner of the 2007 Australian Sustainability Award for the Environment.  “It's one thing for a new environmental technology to show promise, and yet another to prove itself to be commercially desirable, scalable and environmentally sustainable” stated the organizers.

Sustainability has become a buzz word, and that’s a good thing, as we strive to make positive changes in the world and put healthy seafood on your plate.
