Examiner.com: A simple and relaxing dish for two, featuring the passion fish

Julie Cecchini from the Springfield Food Examiner tells the Barramundi Love Story and shares a simple and relaxing dish for two, featuring the passion fish!

Sustainably farmed in nearby Turners Falls is the "Passion Fish".  Native to the shores of Australia, Aboriginals named it Barramundi (large scaled silver fish).  Heart healthy and delicious this white fish with a buttery flavor is versatile and easy to prepare.  A simple, relaxing and romantic meal only needs a couple fillets and your favorite companion.

According to aboriginal lore, two young lovers, Boodi and Yalima fled their tribe in order to escape Yalima's arranged marriage to an elder she would be expected to take care of.  It was believed to be the time before fish when people survived off of the land.  The couple eventually came to the place where the river's met the ocean.  They realized the only way they could be together would be to live in the waters. It is said they took the shape of the Barramundi, forbidden lovers hiding underneath the mangroves.  True believers know the fish to be an aphrodisiac.  Thus you will find it referred to in tales as "the Passion Fish"

Barramundi is versatile.  From the most complex risotto to simple grilling it does not disappoint.  For a romantic meal we have chosen a simple preparation of pan searing, steaming and serving with a fresh infused oil for two. The combination of citrus, ginger, green onion and a dash of pepper is both succulent and satisfying.  It is a recipe worthy of the everlasting romance of Boodi and Yalima.
