The perfect fish for a changing world
Australis is innovating a brighter food future through Climate-Smart Ocean Farming.
Climate-smart ocean farming is vital
to feed the world responsibly.
We will have to produce 70% more food by 2050. A decision as simple as choosing sustainable fish over beef once a week can make a difference.
Raising livestock consumes huge amounts of resources. Agriculture also emits more CO2 than all the world's power plants combined. Embracing lower impact alternatives is imperative.
Health experts recommend at least two servings of fish a week, yet this would require four planet earths if we relied on wild fish alone.
Supporting scalable, ecological innovation and making informed choices will create healthier and lower impact foods for everyone.
By partnering with chefs, health experts, and NGO’s, we're creating a community that is better informed about sustainable seafood. Here's how we're paving the way towards meaningful change.
The story of barramundi is best told in a bite. We work with like-minded chefs and food professionals in their quest to bring better food to more people. As a James Beard House Purveyor and member of Chefs Collaborative, we support passionate, sustainability-focused chefs from around the country and world.
By joining forces with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, one of the world's leading NGO’s whose work focus on fishery and aquaculture improvement projects, we provide large foodservice organizations with expertise and guidance on holistic sustainable sourcing practices. Contact us to find out if your organization qualifies for one of our free sustainable seafood workshops.
We collaborate with leading ocean conservation organizations including Monterey Bay Aquarium, Ocean Wise, SeaWeb, FishChoice, Best Aquaculture Practices and the WWF Aquaculture Stewardship Council to develop rigorous standards to ensure that wild and farmed seafood are a part of the solution to making food more sustainable.
Controlled, traceable, and transparent. We manage our barramundi from egg to harvest and ensure that they are always handled with care. Our revolutionary farming system guarantees the best conditions as possible. We’re proud that our fish are free of antibiotics, chemicals and colorants.
Controlled-environment nursery tanks ensure healthy growth.
They swim freely at low densities and are constantly monitored.
Our fish are harvested, hand cut, and flash frozen the same day.
Our barramundi eat a largely plant-based diet, which leaves more fish in the sea. Less land and water are also required to grow their feed. After harvest, they're shipped by frozen container, which emits 90% less carbon than fresh fish flown by air.
