The perfect fish for a changing world

Australis is innovating a brighter food future through climate-smart ocean farming.

Meeting the
challenges ahead

Climate-smart ocean farming is vital
to feeding the world responsibly.

  • World population will grow by 2 billion in the next 34 years.

We will have to produce 70% more food by 2050. A decision as simple as choosing barramundi over beef once a week can make a difference.

  • Land-based agriculture is our highest impact activity.

Raising livestock consumes huge amounts of resources. Agriculture also emits more CO2 than all the world's power plants combined. Embracing lower impact alternatives is imperative.

  • Wild fishing can't meet demand alone.

Health experts recommend at least two servings of fish a week, yet this would require four planet earths if we relied on wild fish alone.

  • There are big opportunities to improve our food system.

Supporting scalable, ecological innovation and making informed choices will create healthier and lower impact foods for everyone.

Rethink fish.

TURNING THE TIDE

Sustainability starts with teamwork

By partnering with chefs, health experts, and NGO’s, we're creating a community that is better informed about sustainable seafood. Here's how we're paving the way towards meaningful change.

CULINARY INSPIRATION

Spreading good ideas through great meals.

The story of barramundi is best told in a bite. We work with like-minded chefs and food professionals in their quest to bring better food to more people. As a member of Chefs Collaborative, we support passionate, sustainability-focused chefs from around the country in their quest to #ChangeMenusChangeLives.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Building sustainable seafood fluency and leadership.

By joining forces with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, one of the world's leading NGO’s whose work focus on fishery and aquaculture improvement projects, we provide large foodservice organizations with expertise and guidance on holistic sustainable sourcing practices. Contact us to find out if your organization qualifies for one of our free sustainable seafood workshops.

RAISING THE BAR

Collaborating with top conservation organizations.

We collaborate with leading ocean conservation organizations including Seafood Choices Alliance, FishWise, FishChoice, and Monterey Bay Aquarium to develop rigorous standards to ensure that wild and farmed seafood are a part of the solution to making food more sustainable.

CURB YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Enjoy great food with lower impact

Our barramundi eat a largely vegetarian diet, which leaves more fish in the sea. Less land and water are also required to grow their feed. After harvest, they're shipped by frozen container, which emits 90% less carbon than fresh fish flown by air.
